The World Trade Centre in Guyana (WTCG) will convene a conference on Tuesday, November 26th, 2024 at the Exhibition Centre, Pegasus Suites and Corporate Centre, to address a number of key issues in domestic and international banking, according to information reaching the Stabroek Business from the organizers of the forum, Demerara Bank Ltd.
Under the theme ‘Banking Made Easier’ the conference is taking place at a juncture that encompasses enhanced regulatory safeguards and the introduction of mechanisms designed to enable more convenient access to financing for small and medium size businesses. Information reaching the Stabroek Business states that the event will be addressed by Senior Minister in the Office of the President with responsibility for Finance and the Public Service, Dr. Ashni Singh, who will declare the conference open.
Other named speakers include Mr. Robin van Puyenbroek, Executive Director, Business Develop-ment, World Trade Centers’ Association and Co-Chair of the US EXIM Bank’s Advisory Council on Small Business, Governor of the Central Bank of Guyana Dr. Gobind Ganga, Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL) Chairman, Komal Samaroo and Mr. Dowlat Parbhu – Chief Executive Officer, Demerara Bank Limited (DBL).
The conference will address a range of issues including access to trade and business financing; banking regulations and the anti-money laundering landscape in Guyana; correspondent banking; banking instruments for Diaspora communities and enhancements in international payment systems and money transfers. The forum will also discuss the new technological initiatives in place at Demerara Bank to improve accessibility and efficiency to enhance areas that include Lending, Deposit Accounts, Online banking, Visa products, Inter-national Payment Instruments and Digital Banking targeting the Diaspora.
