Corentyne biker dies after colliding with parked truck

A 23-year-old motorcyclist succumbed to his injuries at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital last evening after colliding with a stationary lorry earlier in the day on Number 72 Public Road, Corentyne Berbice.

Dead is Burchell Rover of Number 77 Housing Scheme, Corentyne, Berbice. According to police, Rover was the rider of motorcycle – CL 3169, when he collided with a parked lorry – GYY 6686, owned by Garuda Transportation.

The police noted that at the time of the accident, Rover was not the holder of a valid rider’s licence.

Investigations revealed that Rover was proceeding south along the Number 72 Public Road at a fast rate without wearing a safety helmet, and lost control of his motor cycle. He subsequently collided with the left side of the parked truck.

As a result of the collision, the motorcyclist was flung off his motorcycle and fell onto the road. He was taken by public-spirited citizens to the Skeldon Public Hospital in a semi-conscious condition and treated for a fractured right leg. He was later referred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital for further treatment and succumbed to his injuries at about 18.30 hours.

Rover’s body is at the hospital mortuary awaiting a post mortem examination.
