It is indeed a disaster that the leaders of our country, like those of the vast majority of governing politicians in this more and more materialistic world of ours, seem not to realise, and act accordingly, that the real and most effective solutions to our problems lie not in the equally worldly actions that they pursue.
This is ignoring the real nature of us human beings, which includes the moral and ethical qualities which our Creator has bestowed equally on all of us, which will always work to provide the most efficient and permanent measures to all our challenges. These qualities include the conscience and morality which are ingrained in all of us from birth, and which is a virtual guide to the right behaviour for ourselves and our fellow human beings in all spheres of our living.
One example I would like to bring up is the recent strenuous efforts to curb speeding on our roads by administering punitive measures, when drivers who commit traffic violations would be more apt to behave better if they feel conscientious about the dangers to which they may be subjecting other travellers who may suffer because of their intemperance.
I have previously suggested that moral education should form one of the basic parts of our educational system in all stages of our schooling programmes, from kindergarten right up to teacher training, as this would help to get our people to behave properly and unselfishly.
I really lament the fact that our world is getting more and more materialistic, which is resulting in more violence and oppression, including wars and tyranny. Equally unfortunate is the custom which many approve that “religion and politics don’t mix”, which debars the religious leaders from providing guidelines by which politicians can be fair and just in their actions.
