Guyana will battle Mexico in the quarterfinal round today in the Rugby Americas North (RAN) SVNS Challenge in Arima, Trinidad and Tobago, after recording mixed results that comprised a defeat to Barbados and a win against Bermuda.

In their first match, the Guyanese lost to the Barbadians by a 10-21 score, with Lionel Holder and Godfrey Pollydore recording a try apiece.

However, Guyana responded in their second encounter, besting the Bermudians 12-7 as Holder and Rickford Cummings tallied a try, respectively. Holder also added a conversion.

Eight teams, inclusive of Guyana, are vying for top honours, with the top four teams securing qualification to a promotion/relegation battle in May of 2025. The top four teams from the RAN Challenger Series will face off against the bottom four from the HSBC Sevens at the Sevens World Championships slated for May 3-4 in Carson, California, USA.

The other participating teams are Canada, the Cayman Islands, Mexico, and hosts Trinidad and Tobago.
