During a recent visit to Yupukari, Region Nine, Minister of Education Priya Manickchand told the community that along with the secondary school currently under construction, teachers would be trained from among high school graduates in the area. She also told them that seven more schools were to be added to the four that now exist in the region. This, she said, was just the beginning of government’s development in the area.
The minister said the Yupukari Secondary School would also cater for the children from Flight Hill and Quatata.
Meanwhile, Toshao of Yupukari Russian Dorrick indicated that the development meant that the“more than 100 primary school children” in the community could look forward to attending secondary school close to home.
He added that jobs have been created for the residents who were working on building the schools and four community members who recently graduated as teachers from the Cyril Potter College of Education will soon be in school to teach.
“We have more opportunities coming in because we have the hot meal programme and breakfast that the ministry support and I’m looking forward for that,” he added.
