A 17-year-old resident of Sophia is now hospitalised after he was shot by two masked perpetrators on a motorcycle early yesterday morning on the access road at A’ Field Sophia.
According to a police press release, the incident, involving a 17-year-old labourer, occurred around 2:30 am yesterday. Police said the victim was targeted, reportedly by two unidentified men dressed in dark clothing and wearing face masks, who were riding a black XR motorcycle.
The press release stated that according to preliminary investigations, the victim, along with another 17-year-old male of ‘B’ Field, Sophia, was travelling south on a red Honda motorcycle with the registration number CP 24. As they rode along, the suspects approached them from the opposite direction, the release said.
In an attempt to divert, the release said, the 17-year-old rider swerved, but shortly thereafter, both teenagers heard two loud explosions that sounded like gunshots. The pillion rider told the police that he felt a burning sensation in his left thigh and discovered what appeared to be blood upon inspection.
The two teenagers then made their way to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where the pillion rider was treated for a suspected gunshot wound.
The release said that the area was canvassed for CCTV cameras, but none were seen. Several people were questioned, but no useful information was received. Investigations are in progress, it added.
