The Berbice Bridge Company Inc (BBCI) yesterday said that it has completed the replacement of one of its 30-metre pontoons which float the Bridge.
In a release, BBCI said that the Pontoon Change-Out Programme involves the removal and either replacement or repair, as required, of some 39 pontoons over roughly a three- year period which ensures the long-term durability and operational safety of the Bridge.
The removal and replacement of the pontoons requires the lifting of the Bridge utilizing a state-of-the-art Jack-Up Barge which was locally designed and manufactured by Industrial Fabrication Inc. (INFAB), which also provided engineering support services for the operation.
The BBCI thanked the public for their understanding during the closure of the Bridge to facilitate the operation.
