Dear Editor,
Reference is made to a GECOM article that appeared in another newsprint, on November 24, 2024.
GECOM’s Legal Officer, Attorney Kurt Da Silva, narrated that the Representation of the People Act ( ROPA) ,Section 97, categorically recognize that, though a JOINDER AGREEMENT was crafted by associated political parties, ONLY the political party with the most votes, can legally occupy the Parliamentary Seat. Mr. Lennox Shuman’s Party, LJP, gained the most votes, 2,657, followed by ANUG, 2,313, and TNM, 244. Ergo, Mr. Shuman, could have/should have remained in Parliament for the ENTIRE period. However, should Mr…Shuman demit, for any reason whatsoever, a replacement candidate from his (LJP) list AND HIS LIST ONLY, can occupy the seat in Parliament, thereafter. The above is a preamble to this continuum.
Therefore, as illumined above, TNM’s Asha Kissoon has been illegally squatting in Guyana’s Parliament since April, 2023, when she was sworn in as Deputy Speaker. This position pays an average base salary of GY$ 225,240, monthly (not including perks). Mathematically, the Guyana Government USING OUR TAX PAYERS DOLLARS, has paid Asha Kissoon, GY$4,280,000 for the 19 months (April 2023-October 2024) she illegally squatted in Parliament. Will Asha Kissoon repay Guyana Government the GY$4,280,000 plus, Tax Dollars she received/ is receiving, by illegally squatting (double entendre) in our Guyana Parliament?
Sincerely,
Jonathan Subrian Esq.
