Twenty-six-year-old Philon Edwards, a Guyana Defence Force rank of Number 30 Village, West Coast Berbice, appeared yesterday at the Blairmont Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Ravindra Mohabir where he was charged with attempting to murder his fiancée, Litisha Reynolds.

Edwards was not required to enter a plea. Bail was denied and he was remanded to prison.

Investigations revealed that on Friday, November 22, at about 19:30 hours, Reynolds was at home when Edwards entered and accused her of allowing her son’s father to visit the home during his absence.

She in turn acknowledged the visit, but insisted that there was no interaction between her son’s father and herself. However, despite, her reassurances, the man became furious and went into the kitchen where he grabbed a knife and allegedly held her by the neck.

Edwards allegedly proceeded to stab Reynolds multiple times including on the left side of her face, below her left eye, on her finger, and in her right abdomen. Fearing for her life, the victim ran around the house in a bid to escape.

However, the suspect returned to the kitchen, and allegedly grabbed a cutlass and inflicted several chops to the left side of the victim’s left neck, resulting in significant blood loss. The suspect then fled the scene

The victim sought assistance  from a relative who rushed her to Fort Wellington Public Hospital for treatment. She was later transferred to New Amsterdam Public Hospital where she remains in serious condition.

The case has been transferred to the Fort Wellington Magistrate’s Court, where it will be called on December 12, for statements.
