The prosecution told the court that on the evening,  Giddings accompanied by the two other officers were on foot patrol when they saw the four accused involved in a fight. In an attempt to ease the situation, Giddings attempted to part the fight. In the process the four accused turned on him and began to assault him. He sustained multiple stab wounds, including in his neck,  which were caused by a broken beer bottle and knife, and he remains hospitalized in a critical condition at the hospital.

As result the magistrate refused bail and they were remanded to prison until December 30 2024.
