Global Super League

Hampshire Hawks defeated the Rangpur Riders in a Super Over when the inaugural edition of the ExxonMobil Global Super League (GSL) continued last night at the Providence National Stadium, East Bank Demerara.

A super over was required to settle the outcome after the Rangpur Riders ended on 132/8 following a lower-order batting collapse in pursuit of the Hampshire Hawks identical score.

Batting first, the Riders unit recorded a score of 12/1. However, the score proved to be insufficient as the Hawks successfully overhauled the score, finishing on 14/1 in five deliveries following the batting exploits of Liam Dawson and Shan Masood, the former finishing the contest with a six.

Prior to the eventual conclusion, the Hawks were dismissed for 132 in their allocation. Masood held the innings together with 56 [3x4s, 2x6s] from 41 deliveries, while the next best scorer was Ali Orr with 28 runs.

Zak Chappell was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 5-23 from four overs. He was supported by Harmeet Singh, who snared 2-13, while Rishad Hossain and Mohammad Saifuddin tallied one wicket apiece.

In response, the Riders unit seemed destined for the victory at 120-5 in the 13th over before a lower order collapse resulted in three wickets falling for eight runs, effectively knocking their chase off course and resulting in the eventual Super Over and conclusion.

James Fuller was the primary threat with the ball, as he tallied 2-17 while Dawson recorded figures of 2-23. Danny Briggs and Chris Wood contributed one wicket each. The event will resume tomorrow at the same venue.
