West Demerara Football League
Hosts Uitvlugt continued their perfect campaign to secure the top spot in the West Demerara Football Association Senior Men’s League, squeaking past Wales by a 1-0 score at the community centre ground.
Following a scoreless first half, the Uitvlugt unit eventually broke the deadlock under fortuitous circumstances, as Wales conceded an own goal in the 65th minute. Trevor Lewis unfortunately and inadvertently directed the ball into his own net to seal his side’s loss.
Due to the outcome, the home side climbed onto 24 points and claimed the top spot.
Meanwhile, Uprising bested Crane Rovers by a 2-0 score. Goals on either side of the halftime interval secured the win for the relative newcomer. Orwin Waite recorded the only conversion of the first period, as he found the back of the net in the seventh minute.
Alex Blair then applied the finishing touch to the contest, as he sealed the victory following a 50th-minute conversion.
