Old Fort, GCC, Queen’s Park tally wins

Diamond Mineral Water Hockey

Old Fort, Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC), and Queen’s Park registered contrasting divisional victories when the Diamond Mineral Water International Hockey Festival continued last evening at the National Gymnasium on Mandela Avenue.

In the men’s division, Old Fort bested Hikers 5-2. Warren Williams recorded a hat-trick in the fifth, 11th, and 37th minute, while Omar Hopkinson and Yannick Norton scored in the seventh and 19th minutes, respectively.

For the losers, Robert France and Devin Munroe scored in the second and eighth minutes apiece.

Also, Old Fort, in their second match of the night, battled to a 5-5 stalemate against Trinidad and Tobago (T&T) Police. Williams tallied a hat-trick in the 2st, 28th, and 33rd minutes for Old Fort, while Hopkinson and Dominic Alleyne added goals in the ninth and 24th minutes.

For T&T Police, the quintet of Roger Daniel, Antonio Quashie, Nick Pascall, Nicholas Grant, and Justin Beharry scored in the sixth, 15th, 16th, 30th, and 39th minutes apiece.

In the women’s section, GCC overcame Saints 3-2. Princessa Wilkie bagged a double in the 13th and 33rd minutes, while Gabriella Xavier scored in the 39th minute. On target in the 21st and 37th minutes, respectively, were Clayza Bobb and Makayla Poole.

In the Men’s Over-35 section, Queen’s Park defeated Hikers 8-5. Dominic Young tallied six conversions in the 10th, 13th, 17th, 19th, 20th, and 25th minutes, while Darren Cowie and Shawn Lee Quay scored in the seventh and 30th minutes, respectively.

For Hikers, France bagged a double in the second and 23rd, while Randy Hope tallied a brace in the 26th and 29th minutes. Adding to the score in the 22nd minute was Munroe.

Meanwhile, GCC overcame Carib 4-2 in the men’s Over-45 section. Philip Fernandes amassed a double in the 11th and 17th minutes, while Patrick Edghill netted twice in the fifth and 24th minutes. On the other side, Samuel Carty and Edison O’Brien scored in the 13th and 26th minutes apiece.
