A man was seriously injured in a crash at the roundabout at Crane, West Coast Demerara yesterday morning and the car  was later engulfed by  fire.

According to the police, the injured man has been identified as the driver of the vehicle,  PAD 8354,  Chibieere Edeah, 30,  of Lot 26 J D’Urban Street, Georgetown.

The police say that enquiries disclosed that the car was proceeding east along the northern carriageway  of the road at a fast rate and whilst in the process of negotiating the roundabout, the driver  lost control of the vehicle and ended up on the shoulder of the roundabout where the car struck the  concrete base of a light pole.

The driver suffered  injuries about his face and body. He was then taken out of the vehicle in a conscious state by public-spirited citizens. The driver was then taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he was seen by a doctor on duty and was admitted as a patient.

The police say that the scene was visited yesterday at about 5:35 hrs by Constable 24102 Suybran. The vehicle was lodged to be examined by the licensing and certifying officer.  A breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver but no trace of alcohol was detected, the police said.
