Rockstone Street-ball Classic
Showstoppers, Ballerz Empire, Pouderoyen Brothers, and Family secured their berths to the semifinal round, following quarterfinal wins when the inaugural edition of the Rockstone Street-ball Classic commenced on Friday night.
Staged at the Pouderoyen Tarmac in West Bank Demerara, Showstoppers disarmed Jetty Gunners 5-1. Deon Alfred led the rout with a double in the first and 21st minutes, while the trio of Stephon Jupiter, Teffon Fraser, and Donte McAulay netted in the second, 11th, and 19th minutes apiece. Chris Macey scored in the 33rd minute for the loser.
Showstoppers will now match skills with Pouderoyen Brothers after the latter bested Westside Ballerz 2-1 on sudden death penalty kicks after regulation time ended 1-1. Prior to the conclusion of the contest, the Pouderoyen Brothers took the lead in the first minute via Dwayne Peters, only for their opponent to equalise in the form of Darrel Abrams in the fifth.
On the other hand, Ballers Empire bested Agricola 4-2. Kevin Padmore, Ravin Naughton, Jaleel Alcindor, and Samuel Garnett found the back of the net in the fourth, 27th, 30th, and 40th minutes, respectively. On the other side, Bilaal Jabbar and Jonathan Andries scored in the sixth and 14th minutes, respectively.
Meanwhile, Family defeated the Bagotstown Warriors 2-0 via. Teon Stewart and Lloyd Matthews netted in the sixth and 25th minutes, respectively.
The winner of the event will pocket $200,000 and the championship trophy, while the second, third, and fourth-place finishers will receive $100,000, $75,000, and $50,000, respectively.
The event will conclude on December 6th at the same venue.
