Lethem rancher held in probe over stolen animals, wanted man

Ronny Joseph

A Police team yesterday conducted a raid at the ranch of the late Carmichael Joseph called ‘Kalangage’, which is located at Sapika Creek, in Parikawaarnau Village, Central Lethem, where checks were made for stolen cattle.

A release from the police said that the team was also looking for wanted suspect Carlton Jones who was seen at the said ranch at about 09:00hrs on 2024-11-30, by two vaqueros.

On arrival at the ranch, one Ronny Joseph, a 26-year-old rancher of Tabatinga, Lethem was contacted and interviewed as it relates to Jones and stolen animals, but he denied knowledge of either.

Checks were made in and around the ranch but  Jones was not seen. However, two hammocks were seen tied underneath some trees next to the ranch. Also, the skeletal remains of ten cow heads and three dry cow skins without brands were found on the ranch.

Joseph was questioned as it relates to the cow heads and skins and he claimed he would normally buy cows from Sand Creek, slaughter them at his father’s ranch and sell them to business owners in Lethem.

Joseph was arrested and confronted by the two vaqueros who claimed to have seen Jones at his ranch, but he denied those claims.

He is presently in custody pending investigations.
