Diamond Mineral Water Hockey
Queen’s Park won the Men’s Open and Over-35 divisions, while George United and Hikers clinched the Women’s and Men’s Over-45 crowns when the Diamond Mineral Water International Hockey Festival concluded last evening at the National Gymnasium on Mandela Avenue.
In the men’s open section, Queen’s Park squeaked past the Toronto Lions 7-6. Darren Cowie tallied a five-goal blitz in the third, sixth, 12th, 28th, and 39th minutes, while Jordan Vieira and Dominic Young netted in the fourth and 18th minutes apiece. For the loser, Satnam Dosanjh bagged a double in the 21st and 29th minutes, while Devohn Teixeira, Navdeep Gill, Joshua Miranda, and Jonathan Roberts scored in the ninth, 10th, 36th, and 37th minutes, respectively.
Queen’s Park also defeated Toronto 4-3 in the men’s over-35 divisional decider. Akim Toussaint amassed a brace in the 18th and 21st minutes, while Young and Kadeem Fortune scored in the 15th and 30th minutes, respectively.
On the other side, Inderjeet Singh, Dosanjh, and Roberts scored in the 12th, 14th, and 22nd minutes, respectively.
In the women’s final, George United brushed aside Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) 5-2. Alanna Lewis recorded a double in the 10th and 11th minutes, while Shaniah De Freitas tallied a brace in the 24th and 28th. Adding a goal in the 27th minute was Zene Henry.
For the losers, Abosaide Cadogan and Princessa Wilkie scored in the fourth and 39th minutes, respectively.
Meanwhile, in the men’s over-45 sectional final, Hikers downed GCC 2-0 via a Brian Asregado brace in the 10th and 25th minutes.
