Dr. Mark France was elected Chairman of A New and United Guyana (ANUG) when the party held its Fifth Annual National Conference at the Georgetown Club, Camp Street, Georgetown on November 30, 2024.
ANUG in a press release said that other elected office bearers were General Secretary – Jonathan Subrian Esq., Assistant General Secre-tary – Joel Ramesh, Finance Secretary (Treasurer) – Stephen Patterson and Organizing Secretary – Javeed Ally.
Ten members were elected to the ANUG committee and included Mary Ann Correia, Laura Singh, Maria Fraser, Niall Stanton, Kurt Anderson, Javis Charles, Mohamed Esau Shaheed, Akeem McDonald, Dexter George and Arron Austin.
Following his election, the ANUG press release said Dr. France praised the outgoing Executive Committee and acknowledged their unswerving commitment to ANUG. He also thanked all ANUG members for continued support and reposing confidence in ANUG. The release said the new 2024-2026 Executives were then tasked with taking ANUG to the next level. This involves interacting with all stakeholders in Guyana to listen to the issues affecting all of Guyana and putting forward logical and reachable solutions. Dr. France issued a clarion call on the Government to desist from partisan politicking and to increase transparency and accountability especially since our Guyanese taxpaying dollars and patrimony are involved while encouraging the main opposition to engender constructive criticism dialogue in creating equitable solutions for the myriad of issues plaguing Guyana and – not just “criticize for the sake of criticism”.
ANUG’s new Chair also thanked the fourth estate- the profession of journalism- for the body of work they produced, and reminded them of their journalistic ethos to acquit themselves by conducting enhanced due diligence, investigative and forensic journalism, and deliver unfiltered and unbiased information, to the public.
ANUG said the conference agenda included a report on the activities of the party for the preceding year (2023-2024) as well as the fully Audited Financial Report for 2023-2024 which was delivered by outgoing General Secretary, Timothy Jonas, SC who thanked all for their volunteerism and encouraged leveraging of all opportunities to accelerate growth and alleviate inadequacies facing Guyanese, daily.
Dr. France also highlighted other areas of concern which ANUG will be addressing in the ensuing term and asked for the enhanced participation from all members and Guyanese, at large, as ANUG’s Manifesto will be forthcoming.
The elections of office bearers of the executive committee was administered by the Accounting Firm, Ram & McRae. Christopher Ram supervised ANUG’s election process.
