Kaituma businessmen arrested over drugs

Police have arrested two Port Kaituma businessmen in connection with the discovery of 79.4 grams of suspected narcotics and over $270,000 in cash at their residence and business premises. The arrests were made on Sunday during a police operation led by an Inspector, acting on intelligence reports.

The suspects, identified as 40-year-old Lancelot Glen and 31-year-old George Whittaker Hope, both residents of Train Line, Port Kaituma, are now in police custody as investigations continue.

According to a police release, officers arrived at the premises where Hope was reportedly seated outside. Upon noticing the ranks, Hope fled inside, locking the entrance door and switching off the lights. His behaviour aroused suspicion, prompting officers to knock on the door and request entry.

After several minutes, Hope opened the door and allowed the officers to conduct a search of the premises. When questioned, he claimed to be alone, stating that Lancelot Glen was not present at the time.

During the search, police discovered a bulky black plastic bag containing 113 small ziplock bags filled with what appeared to be cannabis on a table in the building, alongside cash amounting to $270,320, suspected to be proceeds from narcotics sales.

Hope was informed of the offence and, when cautioned, allegedly responded, “That’s all I have, officer.” He was subsequently arrested and taken to the Port Kaituma Police Station, where the suspected drugs were weighed and confirmed to be 79.4 grams.

Later, police contacted Glen, who was shown the narcotics and informed of the offence. He reportedly denied knowledge of the drugs, stating, “I live there, but I don’t know anything about any drugs.”
