The First Family last evening joined the High Commission of Canada and representatives from the United Nations to light up State House in orange as the world celebrates 16 days of activism against gender-based violence.
Canada’s High Commissioner to Guyana Sébastien Sigouin stated that the high commission has been partnering with the Government of Guyana by way of raising awareness, and educating young men and young women on how to prevent violence, training doctors and nurses to deal with victims of gender-based violence and working with the justice system to better address cases of gender-based violence, among other initiatives. He added that the event serves as a forum to express hope for the boys and girls who are victims of this scourge.
