Bladen Hall businessman on $1m station bail after fatally shooting man

A Bladen Hall, East Coast Demerara businessman is on $1m station bail after fatally shooting a man he says was taking Heineken beers from his premises.

The police today said in a statement that Pooran Singh, called Navin,  a 52-year-old visited the Vigilance Police Station at about 2.30 am on Sunday (December 1st, 2024) where he reported that he discharged his licensed 9mm pistol after he saw a man removing Heineken beers from where he stored them on his premises.

Emergency Medical Technicians arrived and pronounced the motionless person dead and took the victim (name and address unknown) to the GPHC.

The businessman was arrested, and his firearm was lodged. 

In a later release, the police said that Singh was this afternoon placed on one million dollars station bail.

The file in this matter is presently with the DPP for legal advice.
