Frankie Speede, a 33-year-old miner of 5 Miles Housing Scheme, Bartica, appeared at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court yesterday before Magistrate Teriq Mohamed to answer a ganja charge and was placed on bail after pleading not guilty.
The police said in a release that the matter was adjourned to 2025-01-02 for disclosure.
On Tuesday, 3rd December 2024, between 13:45 and 14:30 hrs, Police in Regional Division #7 went to Fifth Avenue Bartica, to the shop of Speede. The police said that ranks identified themselves and requested to conduct a search on the premises for drugs, guns or ammunition, which was granted.
A search was conducted in and around the shop during which Police found a quantity of leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis which, when weighed, amounted to 92 grams. Speede was told of the offence committed, cautioned and arrested.
