The Ministry of Public Works (MoPW) is advising all truck drivers and operators that effective immediately, heavy vehicles are prohibited from using the Railway Embankment carriageway.
The Ministry explained that this restriction has become necessary due to the rapid deterioration of the existing infrastructure caused by the high volume of truck traffic along this route. Significant damage to the carriageway has been observed and this compromises road safety and usability for other commuters.
As an alternative, all truck operators are required to utilise the main highway for transit since this adjustment will help preserve the Railway Embankment Carriageway and ensure its continued availability for lighter vehicular traffic.
MoPW urges all drivers to cooperate in adhering to this directive which will facilitate the maintenance and safety of the road network. It also informed that enforcement measures will be in place to ensure compliance.
