Senior Minister in the Office of the President with Responsibility for Finance and the Public Service, Dr. Ashni Singh yesterday met with the residents of New Forest, Region Six to signify the delivery of electricity to the community for the first time ever through the Guyana Power and Light (GPL).
A release from the Ministry of Finance said that the service is in keeping with President Irfaan Ali’s directive that all communities that are in close proximity to the national grid and have a sufficient population size will be provided with electricity.
Singh told the residents to view this action not only as a story of electricity, but in the context of broader and comprehensive work that the Government is doing under President Ali’s leadership to ensure lives in every community countrywide are improved.
Singh urged GPL to ensure that the residents of New Forest are able to switch on their lights before Christmas, and encouraged the residents to be responsible users of electricity.
