– as it celebrates 73rd anniversary

The Government Technical Institute (GTI) hosted its graduation ceremony on Thursday last at the National Cultural Centre under the theme, “Technical Education: Unlocking Potential, Fueling Progress”  as it celebrated its 73rd anniversary, continuing its dedicated mission to empower youth to achieve professional success, a GTI release stated.

Giving a brief history of the institute, the release informed that it began operations in May 1951 in temporary accommodations at the Queen’s College compound. By July of that year, it was relocated to its current address on Woolford Avenue. Initially focused on providing training in craft skills, the institute expanded its offerings in July 1956 to include technician-level courses. By September 1961, diploma-level programmes were introduced, increasing the total number of courses offered to 42. Today, GTI offers full-time, day-release, and evening courses.
