Our senior citizens deserve better

Dear Editor,

The letter by Krishna Nand Prasad in your December 6th edition is truly heartbreaking and highlights the dire need for the government to prioritize the well-being and dignity of senior citizens in our country. It is deeply troubling to hear that a 76-year-old citizen feels compelled to forgo essential benefits like the Cash Grant due to the overwhelming and chaotic processes put in place. No one, especially our elders, should have to choose between their safety and accessing the support they rightfully deserve.

The concerns raised about mass confusion during the pension book distribution and the indignities faced by our elderly population underscore the urgent need for more thoughtful and compassionate systems. The government must do more to streamline these processes, such as introducing safer and more accessible alternatives like home delivery of pension books or online registration for grants, to ensure that senior citizens are treated with respect and care.

Our seniors have contributed so much to our nation, and it is our duty to ensure they live their golden years with dignity and peace. Let this heartfelt plea serve as a wake-up call for policymakers to implement immediate changes and address the challenges faced by our elderly citizens. They deserve better, and it is up to us as a society to ensure they receive it.

Sincerely,
