Fazim Abdool and Ashlie Abraham were among the standout performances on a day highlighted by several record-breaking performances when the Guyana Amateur Powerlifting Association (GAPLF) Senior Championships was staged yesterday at the St. Stanislaus Auditorium, Brickdam. Abdool secured the Best Lifter accolade, as he recorded a total lift of 817.5kg in the 120kg Men’s Open Equipped category, which included a massive 297.5kg deadlift, a 215.0kg bench press, and a 305.0kg squat.
Similarly, Abraham dominated the 84kg Women’s Open Raw class, recording new benchmarks in bench press (77.5kg), deadlift (180kg), and squat (142.5kg) en route to an impressive total of 400kg.
Meanwhile, Mariah Bacchus won the 76kg Women’s Junior Raw category with a 327.5kg total, setting records in squat (132.5kg) and deadlift (142.5kg). Also, Nangita Seenarine dominated the 47kg Women’s Open Equipped class, breaking records in squat (122.5kg), bench press (55kg), and deadlift (137.5kg), as she recorded a total of 315kg.
On the other hand, Marlon Wilson captured the 105kg Men’s Open Raw title with a 642.5kg total, which included an impressive 285kg deadlift, while Nigel Duguid claimed victory in the 93kg Men’s Open Raw division, lifting a total of 592.5kg.
Similarly, Fazim Abdool not only emerged as the best-equipped lifter but also set a record-equalling deadlift of 297.5kg in the 120kg Men’s Open Equipped class.
Likewise, emerging star Meshach Alexander shone in the 83kg Men’s Junior Raw category with a 507.5kg total, while Oslen Batson prevailed in the 93kg Men’s Junior Raw title with a remarkable 565kg total.
