Kashif & Shanghai Futsal Championship

– Stabroek Ballers, Buxton, Spaniards also advance

Powerhouse Bent Street A survived a scare as they overcame Region #9 by a 2-1 score-line when the Kashif and Shanghai National Futsal Championship continued on Saturday evening at the National Gymnasium on Mandela Avenue.

Bent Street A, who were outplayed for the majority of the contest, fell behind in the third minute as MacGuiver Parks found the back of the net, stabbing his effort from the left side of the field into the right corner.

Job Caesar of Bent Street is trying to maintain possession while being challenged by a Region #9 player.

The lead proved to be short-lived as Bent Street fortuitously equalised two minutes onwards after an initial strike from the left side was caught by the goalkeeper, who mistakenly crossed the goal-line with his outstretched hands. The score remained unchanged entering the halftime interval.

Jermaine Beckles eventually secured the go-ahead winner in the 30th minute under fortuitous circumstances as his strike from the left side went through the grasp of the goalkeeper and settled into the right corner.

Meanwhile, Stabroek Ballerz B, Spaniards, and Buxton also secured their berths in the next round.

Stabroek Ballerz thrashed Westside Ballerz 7-0. Nikolai Andrews tallied a helmet-trick while Jonathan McKenzie, Jamal Cambridge, and Randy Maynard scored one goal apiece.

Similarly, Spaniards crushed Red Force 4-0. Jayshawn Moore bagged a brace in the 27th and 28th minutes while Sherwin Caesar and Rondel Peters scored in the 23rd and 29th minutes apiece. On the other hand, Buxton downed Linden All-Stars 5-2. Clevon Barnwell bagged a double in the fourth and 23rd minutes while Akeem Jarvis and Courtney Oden netted in the third and 29th minutes. An own goal added to the score in the 15th minute. For the loser, Omar Brewley and Rodensio Tudor scored in the fifth and sixth minutes, respectively.

The event continues tomorrow at the same venue with another round of matches.
