One week after 30-year-old Chibieere Edeah was seriously injured in a crash at the roundabout at Crane, West Coast Demerara, he succumbed to his injuries yesterday.

Edeah, who was the driver of motorcar PAD 8354, lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the roundabout at Crane, West Coast Demerara on November 30, and the car was later engulfed by fire.

Dead is Chibieere Edeah, 30, of Lot 26 J D’Urban Street, Georgetown.

The police say that enquiries disclosed that the car was proceeding east along the northern carriageway of the road at a fast rate and whilst in the process of negotiating the roundabout, the driver lost control of the vehicle and ended up on the shoulder of the roundabout where the car struck the concrete base of a light pole.

The driver suffered injuries about his face and body. He was then taken out of the vehicle in a conscious state by public-spirited citizens. The driver was then taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he was seen by a doctor on duty and was admitted as a patient.

The police say that the scene was visited on November 30 at about 5:35 hrs by police. The vehicle was lodged to be examined by the licensing and certifying officer.  A breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver but no trace of alcohol was detected, the police said.
