Director of Prisons, Nicklon Elliot says that government funding is revolutionising prison rehabilitation.
Elliot made these remarks during his end-of-year muster and general inspection of officers stationed at the Prisons headquarters yesterday.
A release from the Guyana Prison Service said that Elliot said that transforming correctional facilities into environments that prioritise self-improvement and personal growth is a vital step towards prison rehabilitation.
He added that this is why architectural changes are being made by the government to create spaces that encourage learning and reflection.
He highlighted the importance of collaboration with community partners, private sector, family support networks, government ministries, and law enforcement agencies to ensure the success of these initiatives.
Elliot noted that with continued efforts to rebuild the prison infrastructure and strengthen security at prisons countrywide, prison officers must play their part in ensuring the government’s vision becomes a reality.
