Contractor for Railway Embankment expansion instructed to cover sand stockpile

The contractor responsible for Phase II of the widening of the Railway Embankment – from Sheriff Street to Orange Nassau – has been instructed to cover the sand stockpile used now for charging, so as to avoid it being wasted and being an environmental hazard, Minster of Public Works, Juan Edghill said.

“It is being used for a process called charging. It is where the sand is placed there on the sap and mud and it will be compacted but the contractor has been instructed to get the sand covered,” Edghill told the Stabroek News.

“The EPA [Environmental Protection Agency] has been consulted and the sand is to be covered…,” he added.
