Navin Stoll, a 27-year-old truck driver, appeared yesterday before Magistrate Wanda Fortune at the Diamond/Golden Grove Magistrate’s Courts to face the charge of the attempted murder of his wife, 24-year-old Claurine Prescod-Stoll.

Stoll was not required to enter a plea and was remanded to prison until January 10, 2025.

Prescod-Stoll, a sales representative and mother of one, remains hospitalised in a serious but stable condition after being stabbed 24 times. The attack, which occurred in the presence of the couple’s young son, was captured on video and circulated on social media.

The incident occurred on December 4 at Kuru Kururu, Soesdyke-Linden Highway

The prosecutor alleged that Stoll had a history of abusing his wife, which led her to leave their matrimonial home two weeks prior to the incident.

The victim’s mother, Barbara Gomes, told Stabroek News that this was the fourth instance of abuse during the couple’s two-year marriage.

Gomes said her daughter had previously reported the abuse to the police but later requested Stoll’s release. She described a pattern of escalating violence, including an incident two weeks ago when Stoll allegedly struck Prescod-Stoll with his truck, prompting her to move out and rent a separate residence.

On the day of the attack, Prescod-Stoll met Stoll to collect their son after he promised to give her a gift. According to Gomes, Stoll allegedly lured her to the meeting spot, attacked her with a sharp object resembling scissors, and stabbed her multiple times before fleeing with their child.

A passing relative rushed the injured woman to the hospital with assistance from a police officer. Stoll is expected to remain in custody as the case continues. The police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
