Investigations continuing into No.64 fire that killed five – police

As investigations continue into the fire that claimed the lives of a mother and her four children in Number 64 Village, Corentyne, Berbice, police have yet to charge anyone but have confirmed that several persons have been questioned.

Commander, Regional Division #6, Senior Superintendent Shivpersaud Bacchus, has stated that investigations are ongoing, with five individuals questioned so far.

However, no significant leads have been established at this time. The police and the fire service investigators have visited the scene, but the final report from the fire service is also still pending.

Commander Colin McDonald of the Region Six Fire Service stated that his office is awaiting an official request for the report from the police. Both agencies have informed Stabroek News that they are collaborating to uncover the cause of the fire.

Meanwhile, the fire has raised concerns and many unanswered questions, with some even questioning the fire service’s emergency response protocols in the area. As the investigation progresses, the family of the five deceased is calling for closure.
