The Guyana Gold and Diamond Miners Association (GGDMA) on December 9th sealed a two-year deal with the government on vehicles and spares and has resolved to work for greater growth in the sector.
According to a GGDMA release yesterday, this resolution was made at the Association’s 40th Annual General Meeting, where GGDMA President, Ronaldo Alphonso, averred that despite the many challenges the industry faced this year, it has only served to make the resolve of the miners stronger. And although faced with drought and labour issues, he urged the industry to work together for sustainable growth and develop and capitalise on new opportunities.
The industry has been beset by concerns over low gold declarations and smuggling of gold.
