Four men held after gun found at Caria Caria

Brian Johnson, a 24-year-old miner of Half Mile Linden, was on Sunday nabbed on the Essequibo Coast in  Caria Caria, with an unlicensed firearm with matching ammunition.

Police in a report stated that acting on information received they proceeded to a house on the Essequibo Coast owned by a 59-year-old farmer, where Johnson was found sleeping in a hammock under the house with a black shoulder bag in the hammock.

A search revealed one 9mm pistol with ten  matching rounds of ammunition along with two radio sets. The ranks then asked Johnson if he was a licensed firearm holder and he said ‘no’.

The report added that “he was told of the allegation and caution and he remained silent. He was arrested, and on the way to the Police boat, the suspect told the ranks to wait for his friends. Police contacted Rondel Rodney, a 27-year-old from One Mile Wismer Linden, who was riding a Black XR motorcycle without a number plate; pillion rider Martin Fraser, a 25-year-old from South Amelia’s Ward Linden; and Lionel Gilkes, a 33-year-old welder of Half Mile Wismar Linden who was riding a Black and Red Scooter”, the statement added.

The men were questioned as to the reason for being in the area and they said that they were ‘prospecting’ land. They were all arrested and escorted to Parika Police Station where the two motorcycles were lodged and the firearm was placed in an evidence bag. They were all placed into custody and are assisting with the investigations.
