Police say 4,000 traffic cases recorded in week

The police yesterday said that they have recorded more than 4,000 traffic cases across all regional divisions for the reporting period December 8-15, 2024. Cases included:

1. Exceeding the Speed limit: 739

2. Failure to wear seat belt: 204

3. Faulty packing of load: 29 (with motor Lorries transporting construction materials being the major contributor)

4. Failure to wear a safety helmet: 158

5. Driving under the influence (DUI): 21

6. Prohibition of tinted glass (front windshield/glass only): 637

7. Unlighted motor vehicle (front): 41

8. Unlighted motor vehicle (rear): 64

In a release the police stated that “Traffic Chief Senior Superintendent Mahendra Singh noted that for the period December 8-14, two hundred and forty-four (244) tickets were issued for the offence of exceeding the speed limit along the Heroes Highway”., additionally “Motor cyclists were ticketed for failing to wear safety helmets and drivers carrying pillion rider without safety helmet”.
