After months of delays and community frustration, there are signs of progress on the troubled Paruima Airstrip project in Region Seven.
Just weeks after Minister of Public Works Juan Edghill commissioned it in April this year it began to exhibit signs of deterioration and there were several mishaps on the airstrip. Remedial works were then ordered.
Now, residents of the remote village in the Upper Mazaruni region are expressing cautious optimism as the contractor, International Imports and Supplies, has started to work more closely with the community. Speaking with Stabroek News last week, residents said that they are now expecting the airstrip works to be completed by May 2025.
