The International Decade for People of African Descent Assembly-Guyana (IDPADA-G) has expressed worry that landownership for all Guyanese may be threatened by a proposed amendment to a Bill that deals with acquisition of lands by government.
In a release yesterday, the IDPADA-G stated its concern that the proposed amendment – Bill No. 16 of 2024 – The Acquisition of Lands for Public Purposes (Amendment) Act – poses a threat to landownership for all Guyanese, particularly to African Guyanese, who are the beneficiaries of ancestral lands (lands purchased, granted, and occupied). The bill is to be read for a second time today and passed.
