A group of Venezuelan Warrau migrants who had been stranded in Georgetown on Monday evening were finally provided with assistance by the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs yesterday.
The migrants, who had been left in a state of uncertainty after travelling from the Essequibo Coast, received food hampers from the Civil Defence Commission (CDC), $10,000 in cash, and bus transportation to Parika. However, the struggles of the Warraus did not end there. According to reports from the Warraus and the bus driver hired by the Ministry to transport them to Parika, the bus arrived at the Stelling at 6:43 pm. Upon realizing the next boat was arriving at 8 pm, the bus driver said to SN “I will wait and then put them out, but the next boat not going back tonight so they said the next thing for them to do is sleep on the boat”.
