In the midst of a nationwide effort to distribute $100,000 to Guyanese 18 years and older the question should be asked whether the homeless in particular shouldn’t be provided with the benefit.

A recent follow-up by Stabroek News (SN) on Regent Street, a known hub for street dwellers in Georgetown, revealed that many of those living in public spaces remain unaware of the initiative, with no government outreach teams having made contact.

The $100,000 cash grant has garnered significant attention in recent weeks. However, as SN’s investigation revealed, the execution of the programme  does not appear to include homeless citizens.
