-plus seven years for attempted murder of another
Forty-two-year-old Lester Lawrence La Fleur, called ‘Turtle’, stood motionless as Justice Zamilla Ally-Seepaul yesterday imposed on him a 21-year sentence after he had pleaded guilty to the offence of murder, committed on 15-year-old schoolboy Carlos Leung-A-Wah.
In addition, La Fleur will serve an additional seven years, four months, for the attempted murder of Carl Anthony Singh.
Prior to sentencing at the Berbice Assizes, the judge examined issues of aggravation and mitigating factors, and finding only the latter, noted that the accused had psychological issues for which he was receiving treatment prior to the incident. However, there were no recorded incidents during his period of incarceration as a remanded prisoner, and La Fleur had expressed regret over the incident.
