KFC International Football Series

– Clarendon overcomes Speyside 2-1

Local powerhouse Chase Academy experienced their first defeat in the 2024 edition of the KFC International Goodwill Football Championship, losing to Trinidad and Tobago outfit St. Benedict’s College 0-3 yesterday at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue.

Following a scoreless first half, the contest, which was a battle of the undefeated sides in this group, was decided in the final seven minutes following three unanswered conversions by the visitors. Camron Burke finally broke the deadlock as he found the back in the 80th minute, cutting in from the left side before lashing the ball into the far corner past the diving custodian.

The second conversion quickly followed, this time in the form of Adam Pierre, who made his presence felt in the 83rd minute. It was a moment of individual brilliance from the attacker, who uncorked a thunderous strike from 22 yards outside the centre of the penalty area that sailed into the back of the net.

Pierre, in similar fashion, sealed the win for the visitors in the 90th minute. It was another thunderous strike from the skilful attacker, who unleashed, this time from 25 yards out in the centre of the field, a powerful strike that evaded the opposing goalkeeper and nestled into the net.

On the other hand, defending champion Clarendon College of Jamaica overcame Speyside of Trinidad and Tobago 2-1 to maintain their undefeated record and seal their place in the semifinal round as the group winner.

Terron Williams gave the Jamaicans the lead, following a scoreless first half, as he found the back of the net in the 74th minute. The Trinidad and Tobago unit would restore parity to proceedings in the 90th+1 minute, as Milz Johnson etched his name on the score-sheet.

Speyside thought they had secured a draw with the aforesaid conversion. However, they were stunned in the final moments of the contest as Roshaun Sterling made his presence felt, slamming home his effort in the 90th+3 minute.

Meanwhile, DC Caesar Fox of Region #7 thrashed Henry Hassankhan Community College of Suriname 10-5 at the Queen’s College ground, Thomas Lands. Kemron Thomas led the rout with a hat-trick in the 36th, 56th, and 90th minutes.
