A miner was killed on Thursday in the Puruni River area, Region Seven, when a tree fell into the mining pit he was working in at the time.
Initial inquiries revealed that the man whose name was given as King of Kumung Kumung backdam, Puruni River, was employed by Paul Holder, a 53-year-old gold miner, who is the owner of a land dredging operation at Kumung Kumung Backdam. On the day in question, King and his coworkers were working the ‘jet’ in a mining pit when the southern side collapsed and a tree fell trapping King in the pit. He was subsequently covered in mud and unable to move.
