Drilling rig collapses in Trinidad’s Gulf of Paria, workers rescued

(Trinidad Guardian)  Scores of workers had to be rescued overnight after a privately-owned drilling rig collapsed.

 

Details are still coming in but there are unconfirmed reports that one worker is unaccounted for.

 

The incident occurred in the east field at Soldado, Trinmar.

 

In a brief statement, Heritage Petroleum Company Limited (Heritage) stated that it is fully supporting Well Services Petroleum Company Limited (Well Services) in responding to an offshore incident at Rig 110, which is owned and operated by Well Services.

 

“Rig 110 was at the time, working within Heritage’s acreage,” the company’s statement revealed. “Heritage personnel are onsite and in constant contact with Well Services in relation to the continuing management of this incident.”

 

 

The Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries has confirmed that an investigation has been launched into an incident in the early hours of today during which a drilling rig operated by Well Services Company Limited collapsed.

 

In an official advisory issued a short while ago, the Ministry stated that it had received reports of the incident, and said it was working closely with both Well Services and Heritage Petroleum Company Limited, to determine what had happened and why.

Update #1 at 7:54 A.M.

 

On 22nd December 2024, the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries (MEEI) received reports of an incident at Rig 110, an asset operated by a private sector company, Well Services Limited.

 

Commenting on the incident, The Honourable Stuart R. Young S.C. M.P. Minister of Energy and Energy and Energy Industries has stated,

 

“This unfortunate incident occurred in the early hours of this morning. I received my first briefing at around 3:30 a.m. I am aware that the rig is owned and operated by private sector, Well Services. We are assisting via Heritage and will render whatever assistance we can.”
