Dear Editor,
I read that one Ganesh Dhanraj was sentenced to life imprisonment for a criminal act of wounding his neighbour in 2014. Justice Navindra Singh ordered that he also received four strokes of the whip.
I am appealing to President Irfaan Ali for his intervention for this sentence to be reconsidered, especially the whipping.
The noble Judge has done his duty. We respect his judgment.
But I am in tears. Not only for the victim but for the accused.
I cannot bear at this age of 76 to visualise the cruel descent of a whip on a human body as an answer to justice. Only my death will eliminate the pains of this vision.
Excellency, please……please…. help.
