Rivers View and Rising Stars secured their berths to the semifinal round following hard-fought wins when the Bartica Super-8 Football Championship commenced on Friday night at the Community Centre ground.
Rivers View overcame AK Galaxy 4-3 on penalty kicks after regulation time ended 2-2. Taking first strike from the mark, Rivers View converted from the distance. AK Galaxy then failed to convert their opening penalty kick, in the process surrendering a 0-1 lead to their opponent. Rivers View then inexplicably missed their second attempt, gifting AK Galaxy the opportunity to restore parity to proceedings. AK Galaxy capitalised on their opponent’s failure as they converted to level the contest at 1-1.
