Dear Editor,
Editor, a Happy Christmas and a successful 2025 to you and all of Guyana. I pay keen attention to what is happening in Guyana more on a daily basis. Guyana remains dear to me because it is the only place I would rather call home irrespective of where I reside. Editor, when the government had announced the distribution of the $100,000 dollars cash grant, a lot of Guyanese welcomed the initiative while questioning the amount which they think should have been much more.
Editor, there should have been given more in my estimation. Why? Because of the wanton theft that has been ongoing. Editor, I always reflect on an incident that happened on the Essequibo Coast leading up to the 2015 regional and national elections. Bharrat Jagdeo was there when he was questioned by an accountant from the Coast. Editor, I recalled the gentleman asking Jagdeo about the Petro Caribe monies. Jadgoe responded as usual that the monies were kept in a special fund. Editor, he was cornered and was giving frivolous excuses. It is a shame and until the politicians get serious about the funds that they are sharing as if every day is Christmas, Guyana would remain in a lopsided state for a very long time.
Editor Guyanese need serious leaders with long term visions. Again, Guyana need leaders who have their best interests at heart. Leaders who have a common goal and agenda in wanting to see Guyana transformed into a progressive and successful economy. Editor, to date the residents on Region Two Pomeroon/ Supenaam have not received their promised grants and they do not even know when they are going to get it. It is a shame they would not be getting their monies for the Christmas holiday since most of them were looking forward to having some extra cash. I hope those politicians are taking notes and also I hope they have a better strategy for the years ahead in taking Guyana forward, not backward
Sincerely,
Yannason Duncan
