The inaugural Granton Herbert Innis Memorial Inter-ward Football Match is scheduled for Saturday (December 28), at the All Saints Presbyterian Church ground in Queenstown, New Amsterdam. This special event will honour the legacy of the late Granton Herbert Innis, a former Berbice and Guyana national footballer who passed away in March 2024 in the USA.

The match will feature an 8-a-side format, with players from the Savannah Park and Martin Luther Housing Scheme wards in South New Amsterdam competing. The game will kick off at 4:00 PM, with trophies and medals up for grabs.

Known as “Sillo” among his peers, Granton Innis began his football journey in the Savannah Park ward. He later joined the Cougars Football Club and represented Berbice and Guyana at both junior and senior levels during the 1970s, a golden era for local football.
