14 Syrian police killed in ambush as unrest spreads

DAMASCUS, (Reuters) – Fourteen members of the Syrian police were killed in an “ambush” by forces loyal to the ousted government in the Tartous countryside, the transitional administration said early today, as demonstrations and an overnight curfew elsewhere marked the most widespread unrest since Bashar al-Assad’s removal more than two weeks ago.

Public sector, disciplined services, pensioners get $19.8b – ministry

Some 69,000 public sector employees including members of the disciplined services and government pensioners received their 10 per cent across-the-board increase last week, while over 12,000 members of the disciplined services received their year-end one-month bonus yesterday with the total disbursed amounting to $19.8 billion, a Ministry of Finance release stated.

Software engineering company awarded US$34,000 grant

A Guyana-based software engineering company was recently awarded a grant by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), CARICOM and the University of the West Indies totalling US$34,000 or $7 million to fund their project which is to create a  database that will highlight businesses, freelancers, and organizations in the creative economy.
