State seeking revocation of Brutus’ bail

Calvin Brutus

-following Lethem visit

The prosecution yesterday filed a motion to revoke the bail of Assistant Commissioner of Police Calvin Brutus, alleging that he attempted to flee Guyana to evade legal proceedings.

On December 16, 2024, Brutus was intercepted near the Takutu Bridge in Lethem, Region 9, while traveling in a vehicle with Brazilian licence plates. The police said that he was en route to Brazil without proper authorization.

Prosecutor David Brathwaite informed Magistrate Faith McGusty that Brutus had been ordered to surrender his passport and notify authorities of any intent to leave the jurisdiction. Despite this, he said Brutus boarded a Trans Guyana flight to Lethem and proceeded towards the Takutu Bridge without notifying regional police or obtaining clearance.
